Tibetan Tantric Woodblocks

Nepal, India, about 500 pieces

Collected since 1970, these woodblocks originate from various sources across the Himalayan region. They were acquired from esoteric Buddhist monasteries (Gompas) in the Nepalese Himalayas, Tibetan refugee settlements on the outskirts of Kathmandu, and regions of northern India including Ladakh, Darjeeling, and Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. Some pieces were also brought by refugees from within Tibet. These sacred objects reflect the devotional practices and protective rituals of Tibetan Esoteric Buddhism.
